Dr. Behnia holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering (Cum Laude) from Boston University as well as a Master of Science degree in Oral Biology from the University of Maryland. He attained his specialty certificate in Endodontics, upon graduating from the University of Pennsylvania Dental School with honors.
Dr. Behnia has published and lectured extensively, both nationally and internationally. He is an active member of numerous professional societies, including the American Association of Endodontists (AAE), American Dental Association (ADA), American Society of Forensic Odontology (ASFO), American Association of Dental Boards (AADB), and the Commission on Dental Competency Assessments (CDCA).
He served as a board member appointee (by the Governor) to the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners for nine years.
He has also been actively serving his specialty professional society, the American Association of the Endodontists (AAE). He served on the AAE's Board of Directors as District I Director for three years. He is currently serving as the Chair of the Special Committee to Create Endo Specific Guidance in the COVID Era.
In fulfilling his passion for Forensic Dentistry, he serves as a Forensic Odontologist (consultant) for the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, Maryland. Prior to opening his private practice, Dr. Behnia was an Assistant Professor and Director of Pre-doctoral Endodontics for four years at the Department of Endodontics at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. He is currently a Part-time Clinical Assistant Professor (Dean's Faculty) at the Department of Advanced Oral Sciences and Therapeutics, Division of Endodontics, University of Maryland School of Dentistry, Baltimore, Maryland.
He was recognized as a Top Dentist (Endodontist) by the Washingtonian Magazine in 2020. Dr. Behnia has also been honored Fellowships in the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists.
