Dr. Behnia is a distinguished endodontist with a strong academic foundation and a commitment to excellence in patient care, education, and forensic dentistry. He earned his Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering (Cum Laude) from Boston University, followed by a Master of Science in Oral Biology from the University of Maryland. He then completed his specialty training in Endodontics with honors after graduating from the University of Pennsylvania Dental School.
With an extensive background in research and education, Dr. Behnia has published widely and lectured nationally and internationally. He is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Association of Endodontists (AAE), American Dental Association (ADA), American Society of Forensic Odontology (ASFO), American Association of Dental Boards (AADB), and the Commission on Dental Competency Assessments (CDCA).
Appointed by the Governor, Dr. Behnia served for nine years on the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners. Nationally, he has actively serving the American Association of Endodontists (AAE), most recently completing his second term as District I Director on the AAE Board of Directors in 2024.
Locally, he has contributed significantly to the Maryland State Dental Association (MSDA), where he is the immediate past Chair of the General Arrangements Committee and an active member of both the Continuing Education and General Arrangements Committees. Additionally, he is a Past President of The Alumni Association of the University of Maryland School of Dentistry.
Dr. Behnia's passion for education led him to serve as Assistant Professor and Director of Pre-doctoral Endodontics at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry before entering private practice. He continues to teach as a Part-time Clinical Assistant Professor (Dean's Faculty) in the Department of Advanced Oral Sciences and Therapeutics, Division of Endodontics.
Beyond endodontics, Dr. Behnia is actively involved in forensic dentistry as a Forensic Odontologist (consultant) for the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, Maryland.
His dedication and expertise have earned him numerous accolades, including recognition as a Top Dentist (Endodontist) by Washingtonian Magazine and Bethesda Magazine.
He has also been honored with Fellowships in the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists.
