Dr. Ali Behnia
Dr. Ali Behnia earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering from Boston University before pursuing a career in dentistry. He received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine and subsequently completed his specialty training in Endodontics and a Master of Science degree at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry.
After completing his endodontic training, Dr. Behnia joined the faculty at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, where he served for four years as a full-time Assistant Professor and Director of Undergraduate Endodontics. Although he later transitioned to private practice, he has remained involved in dental education and currently serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor in Endodontics at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry.
For more than two decades, Dr. Behnia has practiced in Rockville, Maryland, where his practice is limited exclusively to endodontics.
Throughout his career, Dr. Behnia has been involved in organized dentistry and professional service at the local, state, and national levels. He was appointed by the Governor of Maryland to the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners, where he served for nine years. During his tenure, he chaired several of the Board's standing committees, including the Infection Control and Bio-Safety Committee and Discipline Review Committee, and also served as Parliamentarian. He established the Board's
E-Newsletter as a means of improving communication with Maryland dental licensees.
Nationally, Dr. Behnia has been involved with the American Association of Endodontists (AAE) in a number of roles. He served two terms as District I Director on the AAE Board of Directors and currently serves on the AAE Practice Affairs Committee. Over the years, he has participated in a number of other AAE committees and initiatives related to endodontic practice and the profession.
Dr. Behnia also participates in the American Dental Association's standards activities and currently serves on several ADA standards working groups, including those related to forensic dentistry, artificial intelligence, and endodontic instruments.
At the state level, Dr. Behnia remains involved with the Maryland State Dental Association and currently serves on its Continuing Education and General Arrangements Committees. He is a Fellow of the American College of Dentists and has served in several roles with its Maryland Section, including his current service as President of the Maryland Section.
In addition to endodontics, Dr. Behnia has had a longstanding interest in forensic odontology. For approximately 15 years, he served as a volunteer Forensic Odontology Consultant to the Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. He has also been involved in graduate-level education in forensic dentistry for seven years and continues to teach and lecture in the field.
Dr. Behnia's professional memberships include the American Association of Endodontists (AAE), American Dental Association (ADA), American Society of Forensic Odontology (ASFO), American Association of Dental Boards (AADB), and American Board of Dental Examiners (ADEX).
His dedication and expertise have earned him numerous accolades, including recognition as a Top Dentist (Endodontist) by Washingtonian Magazine and Bethesda Magazine.
He has also been honored with Fellowships in the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists.
