Dr. Behnia holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering (Cum Laude) from Boston University as well as a Master of Science degree in Oral Biology from the University of Maryland. He attained his specialty certificate in Endodontics, upon graduating from the University of Pennsylvania Dental School with honors.
Dr. Behnia has published and lectured extensively, both nationally and internationally. He is an active member of numerous professional societies, including the American Association of Endodontists (AAE), American Dental Association (ADA), American Society of Forensic Odontology (ASFO), American Association of Dental Boards (AADB), and the Commission on Dental Competency Assessments (CDCA).
He served as a board member appointee (by the Governor) to the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners for nine years.
At the national level, he has been actively serving his specialty professional association, the American Association of the Endodontists (AAE) at different capacities. In 2024, he concluded his term to the AAE's Board of Directors as District I Director (for a second term).
At the local level, he is the immediate past Chair of the General Arrangements Committee for the Maryland State Dental Association (MSDA). He is currently a member of both MSDA's Continuing Education and General Arrangements Committees.
Dr. Behnia is also the Past President of The Alumni Association of the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, Baltimore, Maryland.
Prior to opening his private practice, Dr. Behnia was an Assistant Professor and Director of Pre-doctoral Endodontics for four years at the Department of Endodontics at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. He is currently a Part-time Clinical Assistant Professor (Dean's Faculty) at the Department of Advanced Oral Sciences and Therapeutics, Division of Endodontics, University of Maryland School of Dentistry, Baltimore, Maryland.
In fulfilling his passion for Forensic Dentistry, he also serves as a Forensic Odontologist (consultant) for the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, Maryland.
He has been recognized as a Top Dentist (Endodontist) by the Washingtonian Magazine and the Bethesda Magazine.
Dr. Behnia has also been honored with Fellowships in both the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists.
