Dr. Behnia earned his Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering (Cum Laude) from Boston University and a Master of Science in Oral Biology from the University of Maryland. He completed his specialty training in Endodontics with honors from the University of Pennsylvania Dental School.
Dr. Behnia has published extensively and lectured nationally and internationally. He is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Association of Endodontists (AAE), American Dental Association (ADA), American Society of Forensic Odontology (ASFO), American Association of Dental Boards (AADB), and the Commission on Dental Competency Assessments (CDCA).
Appointed by the Governor, he served for nine years as a board member of the Maryland State Board of Dental Examiners.
On the national stage, Dr. Behnia has contributed to the American Association of Endodontists (AAE) in various leadership roles, most recently completing his second term on the AAE's Board of Directors as District I Director in 2024.
Locally, he is the immediate past Chair of the General Arrangements Committee for the Maryland State Dental Association (MSDA) and currently serves on both the Continuing Education and General Arrangements Committees.
He is also a Past President of The Alumni Association of the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, Baltimore, Maryland.
Before establishing his private practice, Dr. Behnia served as Assistant Professor and Director of Pre-doctoral Endodontics at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. He continues to teach as a Part-time Clinical Assistant Professor (Dean's Faculty) in the Department of Advanced Oral Sciences and Therapeutics, Division of Endodontics at the University of Maryland.
His passion for forensic dentistry extends to his role as a Forensic Odontologist (consultant) for the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore, Maryland.
Dr. Behnia has been recognized as a Top Dentist (Endodontist) by Washingtonian Magazine and Bethesda Magazine.
Dr. Behnia has also been honored with Fellowships in both the American College of Dentists and the International College of Dentists.
